Community
The educators at Better Learning Communities Academy understand that the school’s success is largely driven by the involvement and support of its local community. They also acknowledge the crucial leadership role that BLCA plays in the Hyde Park neighborhood.
BLCA is part of a vibrant network of organizations in the Hyde Park neighborhood that aim to serve, support and improve the local community. Included in this network is Bethlehem Lutheran Church and Better Living Communities, a nonprofit housing development organization. BLCA Works collaboratively with these institutions to meet the diverse needs of not only its students but also its community.
The collaboration between BLCA and the neighboring Bethlehem Lutheran Church means that students are eligible for free before- and after-care at the church during the school year. In addition the church offers BLCA students a broad range of extracurricular opportunities, including music lessons, youth basketball leagues and scouting programs. During the summer, the church offers free music theater and academic camps to BLCA students. Families of BLCA students also have access to the church’s fitness center and computer lab.
Volunteer to Help BLCA and the Hyde Park Community
In order to better serve our community, BLCA relies on the generous assistance of the families of our students. If you are a parent or guardian of a BLCA student and would like to serve as a volunteer for our school and our community, please contact Tina Green at (314) 436-2603.
